Susan Roberts
Susan’s journey into organising group breaks began many years ago, almost by accident. A close friend of hers regularly arranged bowls holidays, and Susan originally became involved simply by helping with typing and general administration. Although she didn’t bowl herself at the time, she and her sisters would often be invited along on the trips — partly to help make up the numbers on the coach — and through those outings she gradually developed an interest in the sport and in the social side of the group.
When her friend decided to retire from organising the breaks, she asked Susan if she would be willing to take over. Susan agreed, and that decision marked the start of what would become a long and rewarding role bringing people together through shared experiences and travel.
Before she began running her own Potters group, Susan was already a familiar face there, often accompanying another couple who were group organisers. She would help with their administrative tasks and would also lend a hand by arranging raffles and the occasional quiz on the coach. This experience laid the foundations for starting her own group.
In her first year organising trips to Potters under her own name, Susan attracted a healthy number of guests. The following year numbers dipped slightly — a natural ebb and flow in any group activity — but through consistency, friendliness, and the personal touches that make people feel welcome, her group slowly grew. Her most recent trip saw an impressive 78 people book to travel with her.
What makes this growth particularly remarkable is that Susan does not advertise. The success of her trips has come almost entirely through word of mouth, with the occasional poster at her club. This year alone she welcomed 12 new guests from two different clubs who had heard about her through one of her regular travellers. They thoroughly enjoyed their time away, and Susan hopes that, as they share their experience with others, her group will continue to grow next year.
From a small favour to a friend to leading large and lively travel groups, Susan’s story is one of natural progression, community spirit, and the joy of bringing people together.

Mick and myself have been coming to potters with you for a lot of years the reason we come with you is you are so organised and you take the time to make sure everyone is having a great time we have fun on the coach on our way to potters and we like the bowls matches we play we are looking forward to our next trip.

Susan organised everything and we only have to say what type of room we want and it's all sorted for us, at a reasonable price too. The job she does I couldn't do, she's very organised from the paperwork down to the coach and the bingo and raffle on the way there and back, and of course the sweeties that go up and down the coach. She can't do enough for us all.
