Across the UK, more and more grandparents are packing their bags—not just for themselves, but for holidays with their grandchildren.
According to recent research highlighted by the BBC, around one in four grandparents have taken their grandchildren away on holiday without their parents, and the trend is only growing. For many, it’s a way of giving busy parents a break, but it’s also about forging deeper bonds across generations and creating memories that last a lifetime.
It’s easy to see why. Grandparents often have more time and disposable income, and they know just how precious it is to spend uninterrupted days with the younger generation. A “grandcation” gives them the chance to do all the fun stuff—building sandcastles, sharing bedtime stories, watching a show together—without the everyday distractions and household chores.
However, while families are increasingly seeking these kinds of holidays, not every destination makes it easy for grandparents to manage the practicalities as well as the fun.
That’s where Potters Resorts Hopton-on-Sea on the Norfolk coast comes in.
Stress-Free Holidays, All in One Price
One of the biggest challenges for grandparents when taking the grandchildren away is the worry about budgets and hidden extras. No grown-up wants to be a fun-sponge, but kids, naturally, want to do everything they see on their holiday.
At Potters, those worries simply don’t exist. Every family break is fully inclusive—meals, drinks, activities, entertainment, sports, leisure facilities—everything is covered in one simple price.

That means no awkward moments over milkshakes, no anxieties about whether the evening show is worth the ticket price, and no stress about picking the “right” activity for the day. Grandparents can say yes to everything the grandkids want to do, safe in the knowledge it’s already included.
Built for Every Generation
During the main school holidays, Potters Resorts Hopton-on-Sea is uniquely suited to multi-generational family breaks. It’s set in 65 acres of Norfolk coastline, giving space to roam and a beach just a short stroll away. But it’s also compact and safe enough for grandparents to feel confident letting older kids enjoy a bit of independence.

Four meals a day keep even the fussiest eaters happy, while kids’ clubs, discos, and spectacular evening shows provide fun and freedom for children. Crafts, family quizzes, and gentle sports let grandparents join in at their own pace, while rally karts, climbing walls, archery, and VR experiences give kids that thrill as grandparents watch on… or even try something new themselves!
"This balance of high-energy activities and relaxed options makes it easier for grandparents and grandkids to holiday together without either generation feeling that they’re not getting the absolute most out of their holiday."
The Entertainment Factor

Evenings at Potters are where memories are truly made. In the Atlas Theatre, the Potters Theatre Company deliver professional, West End-quality productions night after night. For grandchildren, it might be their first taste of big-scale live entertainment. For grandparents, it’s the reassurance that every evening will be filled with family-friendly entertainment.
And it doesn’t stop there. Late night sets and even a silent disco keep the energy flowing well beyond curtain call. The atmosphere at Potters on a fully inclusive family break is one of togetherness, where everyone can get involved at their own pace.

Why Potters Works So Well for Grandparents
The BBC’s coverage of the “grandcation” trend points out that grandparents value safety, ease, and family-friendly facilities above all else. That’s exactly what Potters delivers.
There’s that safety and reassurance, with a family-friendly layout and a happy team of staff always on hand. There’s ease and simplicity, with everything included, and activities for all ages. And better yet, you don’t need to plan what you’ll be doing months in advance.
But most importantly, there’s that special feeling of togetherness. Whether it’s sharing in a quiz, a well-earned drinks break, creating a new craft together, clapping along in the theatre, or strolling to the beach, Potters creates opportunities for grandparents and grandchildren to connect.
It’s why so many grandparents who try a Potters break once find themselves booking again and again.

A Growing Holiday Tradition
“Grandcations” aren’t just a fad—they’re becoming part of modern family life. As more parents juggle careers, childcare, and busy schedules, grandparents are stepping in. Not just as the occasional babysitter or school run helper, but as holiday companions. For the grandchildren, it’s an adventure with some of their favourite people. For the grandparents, it’s a chance to give something truly meaningful—their time and attention.
Potters Resorts Hopton-on-Sea makes this easier and more enjoyable than anywhere else in the UK. It’s a place where every day is different, where grandparents can spoil their grandchildren with new activities and experiences, and where the atmosphere is warm, safe, and welcoming.

With every school holiday covered, from half terms to Easter and Christmas to the bumper summer holidays, there’s a holiday for every family. But whatever the season, the principle is the same: everything included, everyone welcome, and every memory cherished.
The Takeaway: A Perfect “Grandcation” Destination
The BBC’s findings confirm what many already know—holidays with grandparents and grandchildren are more popular than ever. It’s not just a break—it’s that rare opportunity to bond, to share, and to pass on stories and traditions. But for those holidays to be truly special, they need the right setting.
Thankfully, at Potters Resorts Hopton-on-Sea, you’ve already found it.

Don’t just take our word for it…
We welcomed some Mini Travellers to Potters recently, and this is what Mum had to say about it…
Over the February Half Term, my three girls aged 13, 13 and 14 spent 4 nights at Potters Resort, Norfolk with their grandparents. It was the perfect place for a multi-generational holiday, and we will try to explain why it was so amazing.
You’ll have to forgive some of the second hand information I’ve had about this, which I’ve had to pull out from texts such as:
“OMG so much amazing hot chocolate!”
“OMG it’s AWESOME”
“Sorry, can’t talk now, doing stuff, will call later” (and then never did!).
I think in reality that tells you all you need to know about how good it was. There are no hidden costs. Potters Resorts includes it all. Over 4 nights, my parents spent a whole £3 in the arcades for the girls. That’s it.
They didn’t spend an extra penny, and as you’ll see from this video and my review, they LOVED it.
Without exception, every staff member that my Mum & Dad or the kids encountered were all very pleasant, friendly, and extremely helpful. From the moment they arrived at check-in to checking out, everyone couldn’t do enough to help them enjoy their stay. It’s a theme that runs through any review you’ll read about Potters Resorts, so they’re obviously doing something right!
