Through Every Second Counts, we continue to raise funds and awareness for two life-saving charities.
There are challenges… and then there’s the Maldon Mud Race.
This iconic Essex event is not for the faint-hearted. Each year, hundreds of brave participants take on the thick, sticky mud of the River Blackwater. Battling their way across the estuary, it’s a test of endurance, determination and, more often than not, balance!
It’s messy, unpredictable and guaranteed to raise a smile — both for those taking part and those cheering from the sidelines.
This year, the challenge forms part of our Every Second Counts campaign — our mission to raise awareness, and £50,000 for life-saving equipment used by Norfolk Accident Rescue Service (NARS) and BASICS Essex.
And two teams from Hopton-on-Sea and Five Lakes will be lining up to compete in this world famous event for bragging rights!
Jack Jenkins competed at the 2024 Maldon Mud Race Six team members from our Resorts will be joined by a member representing each charity in a 4 v 4 challenge, for a cause that truly matters.
Leading the Hopton-on-Sea Team of Clair Griffin and Dawn Green from our Cashiers Team, and Jane Roach of NARS, is Maldon Mud Race veteran, Jack Jenkins.
"This will be different to when I ran the race in 2024. Then I was on my own, and wearing spandex. This time, I’ll be leading a team, and hopefully NOT wearing spandex."
- Jack JenkinsMeanwhile, leading the Five Lakes Team of Nathaniel Cox and Beth Allen-Brodie from Bars, and David Hockley from BASICS Essex is first-timer Jemma Hampton Barrett. And she was quick to play down the idea of local knowledge giving the team a competitive edge.

The Maldon Mud Race will see its fair share of characters taking part!Supporting both NARS and BASICS Essex, this challenge is about more than just crossing the finish line. It’s about shining a spotlight on the incredible work these first response charities do every single day.
From attending serious incidents to providing critical pre-hospital care, these selfless volunteers are often first on the scene when every second really does count. The funds raised through this campaign will go directly towards the essential equipment they rely on — helping them continue their vital, life-saving work across our regions.
Of course, while the cause is serious, the event itself promises plenty of unforgettable moments. Expect slips, slides, laughter and more than a few muddy faces as our teams navigate the estuary’s famously challenging terrain. It’s all part of the experience — and part of what makes the Maldon Mud Race such a brilliant community event.
Of course, we’ll be documenting every slow and muddy step. But if you’re in the area, we’d love for you to come along and show your support on the day. The atmosphere is always fantastic, with crowds gathering to cheer on participants as they take on the mud. And be sure to keep an eye out for our Potters Resorts teams and stand.
